And there is potential to further increase the value of Iguana Cay, through additional steps to encourage more visitors to the island and to generate more income to the National Trust from them. The cornerstone of economic theory is that resources become more valuable as they become more scarce. As TCI currently has a relative wealth of resources like sandy beaches and diverse reefs, it may seem as though we could lose a bit of these systems without suffering too much. Developers in places like West Caicos , Pine Cay and Ambergris Cay recognise that visitors will pay large sums of money for this increasingly rare experience. The island is economically valuable because it is situated near to a developed area, and is accessible to large numbers of tourists. It also makes Providenciales a more attractive place to live and visit. Indeed, a lmost half of the value of Iguana Cay is created through the indirect effect of Iguana Cay attracting greater numbers of tourists to TCI.
